Giles Insurance Brokers in Wigan gears up for growth
New appointments mark new phase of ambitious expansion driveWigan based Giles Insurance Brokers, formerly Kerwin Smith & Co, has seen turnover double over five years and has appointed six new members of staff as it embarks on an ambitious growth programme. The Wigan company has recently won an endorsement from distribution giant DHL to provide insurance cover to its service partners, which is set to provide a major boost to the business over the next 12 to 24 months.
The company has also recently made two key appointments to its Wigan commercial team. Garry Leverton and John Thorpe both join Giles with over 10 years experience in commercial insurance and have worked locally for the past five years. They will focus on growing and developing the business with commercial clients in the Wigan area. Elliot McQuillan, Richard Spencer, Kate Whitelaw and Faye Cuthbert have also joined Giles’ Wigan base, working in the company’s specialist team for the courier and transport industry.
Steve Smith, formerly Managing Director of Kerwin Smith & Co and now recently appointed as Managing Director – North for Giles said: “I am delighted to be able to announce such strong appointments for our Wigan office. “These appointments reflect the hard work of our existing staff but are also key to the continuing growth of Giles’ Wigan branch and represent a strong investment in Giles’ North region “We have been part of Giles for almost six months and have been working hard to integrate our systems and practices with those of Giles since then, and are now a full part of the team. “Our customers will soon see the benefits of the acquisition as our purchasing power improves and we are in a stronger position to bring economies of scale to our customers.”
Kerwin Smith & Co was founded in 1988 and is a specialist in providing commercial insurance to businesses throughout the North-West. The company also has a specialist division for the courier and fleet industries.
The company was acquired by Giles Insurance Brokers in April this year and recently rebranded to take on the group name. Following its MBO last summer, Giles has embarked upon an ambitious growth programme and aims to double the size of its business in the next two years, targeting premiums of £300 million.
